Kitchen hoods that cannot be placed above the induction cooktop could be a real problem as most of us want a hood fan that retracts into the ceiling, allowing the kitchen to feel more open to the family room and dining room.
The hood sucks odors from during cooking: models with built-in grease filter absorb the greasy vapors.
Planning a kitchen renovation and looking for new appliances? Or simply searching for a new hood for the induction cooktop?
A solution is a hood that can be sunk into the worktop: we found out that there are some possibilities that you may consider.

1. Gaggenau
1.1 Gaggenau CVL 420 Flex induction cooktop with downdraft ventilation

The output power is 2200 W, with booster 3700 W for one cooking area; if you decide to make a large cooking area of 38×24 cm, you will get 3300 W power, and with booster, 3700 W.
In order to control the induction cooktop, you will discover that it provides easy control of cooktop functions with a bicolored display.
The product is designed with solid stainless steel control knobs that are set discretely below the cooktop on the vertical surface, while the white and orange user interface is clear and intuitive. There is an electronic power control of the cooking zone in 12 output levels.
If you want to know more about the downdraft ventilation, consider the fact that the cooktop is equipped with a highly efficient ventilation system: it is an air extraction or air recirculation system providing an energy efficiency class A and an energy consumption of 42.7 kWh/year. It is not too noisy as the sound level is between min. 56 dB and max. 68 dB in normal mode.
On the other hand, for operating the ventilation system, you have 3 electronically controlled power levels and 1 intensive mode in order to adjust the ventilation according to your cooking needs.

2. Jenn-Air
2.1 Jenn-Air JID4436ES 36” Induction Downdraft Cooktop
Are there other solutions? Yes, there are: Jenn-Air 36” Induction Downdraft Cooktop JID4436ES is a great item that you should take into consideration because it guarantees the cooking power of gas stoves and the cleanability of electric cooktops; at the same time, it has the capacity of clearing the air of cooking vapors fast, easy and simple.
So, you do not need anymore an overhead ventilation system.
This induction cooktop with downdraft incorporated comes with 4 flexible induction elements that allow you to cook using different sizes of cookware on the same element; with the performance boost, each burner quickly heats cookware, boils liquids and sears meats by raising the cooking temperature above the highest setting for up to 10 minutes.
It is impossible to not notice the beautiful jet-black glass surface that wipes clean easily.
The induction cooktop incorporates pan detection system that detects your cookware before enabling an element and switches off the unit when the pan is removed.
And there are separate timers for each element that allow you to easily time several dishes at once.
Such a product is more than necessary in a kitchen as with proximity ventilation, the system captures smoke, steam, and odors at the level of cooking surface, whisking them down and out of the kitchen before they can escape.
With timer function, you can set the downdraft ventilation system to automatically shut off; this is available even if forgotten about.
You have the possibility to select from 2 fan speed settings as the item is designed with a range of ventilation power to accommodate your precise cooking needs.
With a 350 CFM blower capacity, the air of vaporized grease, smoke, and steam that can damage walls and cabinetry will quickly disappear.
The downdraft vent is gently illuminated with LED lighting; you are able to see how cooking vapors are captured in an instant.
Another advantage of this system is the fact that provides quiet operation; the sound of ventilation is almost imperceptible as downdraft ventilation is integrated with the countertop and cabinetry.
In order to eliminate the risk of burns or fire from reaching over heated surfaces, cabinet storage space located above the cooktop should be avoided.

4. Other options
4.1. What solution we have other then Induction Integrated Downdraft?
Searching for other alternatives? Whatever we may consider, certainly we need a hood over induction, just like we need one over any stove.
Otherwise, the smoke and grease and steam just spread throughout our space. A possibility would be to buy separate downdraft for our induction cooktop: a downdraft appliance redirects steam and grease from the cooking surface down through the product itself or via a separate blower to the outside.
Retractable hoods are also very powerful and convincing with a simple operation: installing them directly behind the hob, the vapors are very specifically collected.
Most people who have kitchens with a freestanding cooktop choose these appliances as the countertop is wide enough and the cabinet can be adjusted accordingly.
Although these hoods can be adapted to the structure of the kitchen, you should pay a higher cost than for models that are mounted above the hob.
Another disadvantage considers the fact that the models can be installed only when the hob is installed separately from the oven: the hood is lowered into the countertop and it must be created enough space. This is not usually available if there is under the hob, the oven.
4.2 Downdrafts Vent for 30 inch Induction Cooktops
Broan 273003 Eclipse Downdraft 30-Inch
Considering downdrafts for 30-inch induction cooktops, you may choose Broan 273003 Eclipse Downdraft Model Ventilator, 30-Inch, Satin Aluminum: it has a 500 cfm interior blower and automatically raises into position and turns on the unit with the touch of a button.
It disappears flush with the cooktop surface: the infinitely adjustable variable speed slide control is flush with the side of the unit.
The dimensions of the innovative downdraft system are 30-inch width by 2-inch depth by 29.5-inch height. Such a hood is compatible with virtually all self-contained cooktops as it has a sleek and trim styling, perfect for any cooktop style or color.
You have to press a button and it automatically raises into the position. It is a great product as its space-saving design lets you make the most of precious, under-counter cabinet space.
Easy to reach and simple to use, the front access panel allows easy cleaning. This item has stainless steel cover standard with a blower that discharges right, left or down and slides side-to-side to ease installation. There are some optional cover colors available: white, biscuit or black.
In case we need to install this in an island range setup and need the blower motor on the side opposite of the range, we can do that but the blower would go beyond the range top by 9 inches, the island would need to be more than 30 inches deep.
Be aware of the fact that two of the burners would be quite far from the blower and this thing comes up alongside the cooktop as it could really hinder your movement during cooking (flipping burgers, stir-frying, plating up, etc.).
It is loud but works good, and has adjustable speeds to quiet it down: you turn the knob to slowly increase the speed and sound of the fan; and when you put it back down and raise it up the next time, the setting will be where you left it the time before which is great because you do not have to constantly turn on the knob.
Bosch DHD3014UC800 30″ Stainless Steel Downdraft Range Hood
Another option is Bosch DHD3014UC800 30″ Stainless Steel Downdraft Range Hood that has multiple blower options, with 3-speed mechanical controls and dishwasher-safe filters.
This downdraft range hood is compatible with the slide in electric range but only if you are putting this into a large island, and have the room behind the range. You should also consider that it is not advised that you put a downdraft with a range because you need space below the cabinets for ventilation components.
It has not a blower motor reversible: this model does not come with a blower and you have to choose the blower type and it does not come with a duct; it just includes the unit, no duct or blower. On the market, you can choose from external, inline or integrated blowers; the product has a design that matches Bosch’s cooking line.
Having three power levels, the unit offers a full range of ventilation options, easy to use front controls and with a filter that raises 14″ to capture steam from tallest pots.
If you want to have the best results, you should turn the blower on before starting to cook, use a rear burner when browning or pan frying meat. Be sure to open a window or inside door slightly and to clean the filters and the wall behind the filters frequently.
